Baba’s Guru’s Gift

Baba’s Guru’s Gift

This Brick (which Baba always lovingly used to support his arm or head) is my Guru’s gift, my life companion. It is not the brick that is broken now-but my Karma (prarabdha) is that has snapped. I cannot survive the breaking of the brick.

(Baba said this early in October 1918 when Madhav Fasle lifted the brick and carelessly allowed it to fall, whereby it broke into two. Baba seeing the broken pieces expressed his grief and spoke as above.)

Sadana – Worship of objects

Sadana – Worship of objects

If Gods like Datta are on the way, easily accessible, and if one does not take darshan of them, how can I help him?

At Nivas, there is Mohiniraj. That is Allah, who had become saguna. Go and bow to Him first, Appa Kulkarni, and then go to the D.P. for the case against you. (Appa did so & was acquitted).

God exercises all power for the benefit of devotees.

Megha, take this linga for worship.

Megha, why did you come here for my worship omitting to worship at one temple (Khandoba’s)? Go and worship at Khandoba’s now; it is open.

Blessed Devotee who Experienced Baba’s Miracle before 1918 – Alerting and Averting The Theft

Blessed Devotee who Experienced Baba’s Miracle before 1918

Alerting and Averting The Theft

Plague raged in Pimpalgaon, Baswanth, Nasik District. Waman C. Munge, a lawyer, moved his family to his farmhouse. One night, a theft was in progress in his house. The thieves had cleverly made a hole in the wall. Munge was sleeping peacefully, and on the wall above, hung Baba’s photograph.

One of the thieves entered the room and taking a small box that lay below the bed, passed it to his accomplice who was outside. The box contained cash of Rs.200/-, but had some promissory notes, worth Rs.4000/-. Next, the thief was in the process of lifting a huge trunk that was in front of the cot. This trunk was valuable as it contained the family jewelry, worth about Rs.10,000/-. Baba was watching all this from the photograph above the bed.

At that very instant, Baba appeared in his dream, woke him and warned him of the theft. So, he started shouting at the top of his voice. His sister-in-law also joined him. The commotion woke the whole family, the servants and the watchman. They chased the thieves who escaped, or so it seemed.

The next day, the small box was found, lying in the field nearby. The cash, however, was missing, but the promissory notes were intact. On that day, he had a dream vision, in which he saw Baba, Abdul and another Fakir (Abdul’s Guru). Subsequently, he visited Shirdi and saw the Trio there.

Some days later, Shri Datta Brahmachari of Kopargaon, visited him for lunch. He told Munge that the lost property was recovered. The police had raided a Marwari, and confiscated many stolen goods from him. The police officer also arrived at Munge’s house and informed him of the raid. Subsequently, with proper identification, he recovered his money.

Our Beloved Sadguru Sainath, please accept our humble prayers on this Holy Day of Guruvaar. Baba, teach us what to inhale and exhale. Baba please make us to inhale what will build and revitalize our life and to exhale what is destructive and harmful, to inhale God’s promises and to exhale our burdens, to inhale faith and to exhale fear, to inhale love and to exhale hatred, to inhale forgiveness and to exhale unforgiveness, to inhale success and to exhale failure, to inhale success and to exhale failure, to inhale peace and to exhale anxiety, to inhale today’s aroma and to exhale yesterday’s rotting smell. Baba, on this holy day we start our prayers by reading your divine guidance in Shri Sai Samartha Satcharitra.

Baba put the entire handful of lump sugar in my hands and said : “Your state of mind will be like this sugar, if you remember this story.

Just as this lump of sugar is sweet your cravings will be satisfied; you will truly prosper and your heart’s desire will be fulfilled.”

Then I paid my respects to Baba and said: “Your blessings are enough for me. Only grant me this favour. Take care of me”.

Baba said: “Listen to the story. Repeat it. Recite it always. Remember it and concentrate, so that the essence of happiness will appear.

If you keep in mind whatever you have heard, the mine of your welfare will be opened and your sins will be washed away.

When the wind is blowing strong, quantities of bubbles and foam can be seen on the crest of the rising waves in the ocean and they dash against the banks.

Waves, bubbles, foam and eddies are many forms of the same water. They are only visual illusions and they last till the wind calms down.

Should all this be called different kinds of water? Or should they be considered as having vanished? One should understand that this is all creation of illusion and their existence and non-existence is the same.

Similar are the happenings of this creation. A discriminating person does not wonder at it. He does not hanker after the perishable, being attached to the eternal.

Dhyana is more important than Gyan. But, for Dhyana the right knowledge is essential. So far as the concept of Brahman is not understood, perfect Dhyana is not achieved.

For the sake of real knowledge, Dhyana is basically essential. This process is known as Pratyag Atma Anushthan i.e. realisation of the Atman. But that is devoid of any particular action. Therefore, how can one concentrate upon it?

Pratyag Atma is itself God. God is Guru. There is not the slightest difference amongst the three. One who differentiates will be completely bereft.

When with deep and intent contemplation, the difference between the meditator and the object of meditation disappears, the mind becomes like a lamp which is steadily burning. Peace prevails and that is itself Samadhi.

Baba given darshan to Shri Doraiswamy Naidu Trichy.

Baba given darshan to Shri Doraiswamy Naidu Trichy.

I know about Shri Sai Baba’s miracles and powers and learnt the same through my master A. S. Gopalakrishna lyer, after his return from Shirdi in the month of January.

For the past six months I have seen Baba five times in the Depot and three times in my master’s house at Tennure and once in my house.

When He appeared for the first time at about 4 A.M. in the morning he appeared as a boy of five years woke me up saying “It is already late get up and commence your daily routine work”. Two or three times, I saw Baba at the Depot with Bhajana party at about 2 A.M. in the night always accompanied by “Anjaneya” by his side. Once, he told me that “He is going to Dindigul” and asked me to accompany him and I went to Dindigul and then returned. By this time, I woke up and so I am unable to explain as to what happened at Dindigul. Another time, he gave me sugar candy and rose flowers and wrote something on my chest. On another day there was a good music party with a lot of ladies taking part in it.

At my master’s house with Anjaneyar twice, coming from the puja room to the centre hall and then taking His seat on the plank of the mirror where Baba’s picture was kept and worshipped during the last Samajam day. Anjaneyar Himself was seated by the side of Baba on the floor. I saw Baba seated on the plank for about a few minutes and then He vanished. This happened in my waking state at about 8-30 P.M. And another time also at about 8-30 P.M. Baba came alone wandered in the centre hall and then vanished in the adjoining room.

When Baba appeared in my Master’s house, two children were suffering from typhoid and the rest of the children were suffering from itch and Baba directed that no medicine need be given to the children and it is enough if UDI is given twice a day both in the morning and in the evening and said they would automatically recover and be right after a few days time. Accordingly my master stopped medicine even though the temperature of the children ranged from 102° to 105° and administered UDI twice a day and the children recovered and they are now hale and healthy due to Baba’s miraculous powers. He also further informed me that he is taking care of all the children and the other members of my masters house who he said are all His children. In my own house at about 2 A.M. in the night, 4 or 5 days ago when I was suffering from severe pains in my waist, Baba appeared to me and gave me UDI and asked me to take it and said I will be alright. Accordingly, I took the UDI and I was relieved of the pain immediately and now I am alright.

Surrender Shri Sai Completely! Stupendous Delectation and Deliverance be there!!

Coin Worship & Prosperity

It 1908 Balakrishna Ramachandra Khairikar going into the mosque trod upon a coin, a quarter anna piece, picked it up and gave it to Baba.

Balakrishna Ramachandra Khairikar: Baba, this is your coin. Keep it safe.

Baba (returning it): That is all right. Take this coin home. Keep it in your puja along with the images you, worship.

Balakrishna Ramachandra Khairikar worshipped it for three years and had prosperity. He then lost the coin and also prosperity.

With Baba, Pain is Gain

Baba once asked Kaka to accompany Him to Nimgaon, knowing full well that his left leg was hurting. On that occasion, Kaka had such excruciating pain, that he could hardly limp, even a furlong. But Kaka being the perfect devotee, said, “Yes Baba”, and got up. Kaka of course knew that his Guru had a plan for him. They both set out to Nimgaon, a distance of 6 km, to and fro. Over the dusty and bumpy road, they walked. But there was not a trace of pain in Kaka’s leg. When Kaka came back to Shirdi, he found that the pain had completely gone

Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are one and same.

sai vitthal

Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are one and same.

Narahari was born in Devagiri. He learnt to read and write. But the way of the scholar was not to be his path. His father’s profession called him, and he gave up his studies and began to help his father in the goldsmith profession. His surname was Sonar – the jeweler who makes golden ornaments. Narahari became proficient in the traditional art and gained a little name too as a good jeweler.

Subsequently, Narahari decided to shift to Pandharapur. Narahari loved Shiva dearly. He would pray to Him day and night. He would worship the Lord with great fervor. When in trouble, he would resort to this chosen deity, Shiva.

Pandharapur was a town of Krishna devotees. Narahari felt as if he were in a desert. To his utter dismay, he found that he was alone in the town. Everyone spoke about Panduranga, sang His praises, worshipped Him and adored Him. No one spoke of his dear Lord Shiva at all. Narahari thought, “Who is this Krishna? Who is Panduranga? And people are mad after this God. My Shiva can create a thousand such Pandurangas.” What a noise these devotees of Panduranga make thought Narahari when he heard their keerthanas. Narahari stayed aloof. He decided not to bend his head before Panduranga. He earned fame as a very good goldsmith.

A rich man came to Narahari one day. He wanted to donate an ornament to Lord Panduranga and so requested Narahari to prepare one for him. He had decided on a silver ornament like a belt called ‘kargota’, in Marathi language to be tied around the Lord’s waist. Narahari was ready, but didn’t want to go to the Panduranga temple for measurements. He asked the customer to bring the measurements. The grand ornament was ready in a few days. When the rich man took it to the temple, the ornament did not fit the Lord. It was too tight.

The rich man and Narahari both were in a dilemma. The rich man had brought the correct measurements and Narahari made the ornament accordingly. By mysteriously it was too tight. Then the rich man asked Narahari himself to come over to the temple and take the measurements himself. Narahari was a bigot. He had taken a vow not to see any Vishnu image in his life. But the rich man suggested that Narahari’s eyes could be tied up before the Lord and he can take measurement with his hands.

To go to a Vishnu temple, Narahari was hesitant, but the ‘blinding’ arrangement seemed appropriate. He prayed to Shiva to pardon him the transgression of stepping into a Vishnu temple and went with the rich man.

Once inside the temple, Narahari’s eyes were tied up. Narahari began taking measurements of the God he did not like to see. He began to feel the image. Surprise of surprise the touch appeared to be something different. Was he touching the Shiva image? He moved his hands towards the face. He couldn’t be mistaken because he being a goldsmith knew the Shiva image to be too well to be deceived. There was the matted hair; there were the three eyes! Yes. There was the name! He murmured; ‘what’s all this?’ and tore the cloth away from his eyes. To his astonishment, it was the Panduranga image and not Shiva. But where were the snake, the three yes, and the matted locks?

He tied the bandage again like one mad and began to feel the image. Onlookers watched Narahari, behaving like a mad man inside the sanctum. Narahari’s touch convinced him again that it was not a Vishnu image but a Shiva image. This time he carefully felt the image, and there was absolutely no doubt.

He removed the cloth once more. He opened his eyes. No. It was not he, but smiling Panduranga who had opened his dear devotee’s eyes. Narahari Sonar was moved to torrential tears. He cried: “Oh Lord! Forgive this fool!” He knelt before the Lord and prostrated again and again.

(From the glorious life of Saint Narahari Sonar of Pandharapur)
